As a travel destination, Barcelona really does have it all. A vibrant city with beautiful sandy beaches, rugged mountains, spectacular architecture, great food and lively nightlife. There’s an effective bus and metro system, but we find walking around each district is the best way to experience the city’s history, culture and buildings that are works of art in themselves.
The iconic Sagrada Familia should of course be on your agenda, and the great thing about it is it looks different every time you visit. If you’re heading inside, get a skip the line ticket and be prepared to be amazed. But don’t sleep on the rest of Gaudi’s work. You’re sure to pass the unique buildings dotted around the city as you explore but take the time to visit Parc Güell. Colorful mosaics, funky shapes and spectacular views down to the Mediterranean await you.
Stroll down La Rambla, make a stop for foodie treats in the Mercat de la Boqueria, then peel off through the pretty Medieval alleyways of the Barri Gotic. From boutiques to art museums to trendy bars, you could spend all day exploring this neighborhood. Or, if you’re short on time, you could wind your way through the streets and down to the beach. Where we recommend you sit and enjoy the view with a sandwich and a bottle of sparkling wine from La Xampanyeria. Enjoy!
